How to deal with the curled edges of sisal carpets?

1. Mild curling (slight lifting of the edge without obvious deformation) : Temporary fixation + daily maintenance It is suitable for cases where the edges have just become curled but no permanent wrinkles have occurred at the edges. The key is to restore flatness through "fixation + correction". Heavy object pressing method Press the rolled edge directly with a flat object of certain weight (such as thick books, storage boxes, decorative stone piers) and keep it for 24 to 48 hours. Sisal material has a certain degree of formability. Long-term heavy pressure can gradually make the raised edges adhere to the ground, especially suitable for slight curling caused by uneven laying after short-term use. Tape-assisted fixation Choose double-sided carpet-specific tape (avoid using ordinary transparent tape as its strong adhesion may damage the floor or carpet fibers). Cut the tape to match the length of the roll edge. Stick one side to the back of the carpet roll edge (the side close to the ground) and the other side to the ground (for tiles and wooden floors, make sure there is no residue of the tape). Press it flat and let it stand for 1-2 hours. This can temporarily fix the edge. Prevent the edge curling from worsening Avoid "one-sided pulling" in daily life After a slight curling, avoid frequently pressing the edge of the curling or pulling the carpet on one side (such as pulling the carpet when moving furniture). When cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner to suck along the texture of the carpet to reduce external force damage to the edge fibers and prevent the curling from worsening 2. Moderate curling (with significantly lifted edges and slight wrinkles) : Physical correction + reinforcement treatment If the curling edge has been ongoing for some time and the edge fibers have slightly deformed, a dual treatment of "heating softening + reinforcement" is required to restore the flatness and enhance the stability at the same time Steam ironing correction (Use with caution, temperature control is required) Sisal is a natural plant fiber with average heat resistance. Before ironing, it should be tested on an inconspicuous part of the carpet (such as a corner). Set the electric iron to a low temperature (≤120℃) and steam mode. Place a thin layer of cotton cloth at the rolled edge (avoid direct contact of the iron with the carpet to prevent the fibers from being scorched). Gently press and iron the rolled edge area to soften the sisal fibers with steam. At the same time, use your hand or a ruler to flatten the rolled edge towards the ground. After ironing, immediately press it with a heavy object for 24 hours to set the fibers. Note: Do not dry iron at high temperatures, otherwise it will cause the sisal fibers to become brittle and discolored. Install carpet edge strips/pressure strips If the curled edges appear at the junction of the carpet edge and the floor (such as in corridors or living room edges), metal/wooden carpet edge trim strips can be installed (available at building materials stores, with built-in fixing clips or adhesives) : First, smooth out the rolled edges to ensure that the edges of the carpet fit the ground closely. Cut the edge strips according to the width of the carpet, align them with the edges of the carpet and fasten or stick them firmly. Fix the carpet with the pressure of the edge strips while covering the marks of the rolled edges and enhancing the aesthetic appeal. |
